Competitive Dance Team — By Audition & Invitation

Our Competitive Team is built for dedicated dancers ready to level up — a real commitment of multiple hours a week, with results to match. Dancers sharpen technique, performance quality, and confidence while building tight team bonds through travel, competitions, and shared wins. It's challenging and rewarding, shaping not just great dancers but great teammates and leaders.

Competitive Dance Classes in Lockport, IL

If you're searching for a competitive dance team near you, Relevé Dance Company offers award-winning competitive dance for kids and teens right here in Lockport, serving families across Will County including New Lenox, Mokena, Homer Glen, Lemont, Orland Park, and Joliet. Our competitive program is for dancers ready to train harder, perform on bigger stages, and grow alongside a close-knit team — and it's a big reason we've been named a 3× ADCC Studio of Excellence (including 2026).

Our Competitive Dance Teams

We group competitive dancers by age and ability so every dancer is challenged at the right level:

  • Mini Team — our youngest competitive dancers, easing into the team experience in a fun, supportive way.
  • Pre-Company — a developing team that builds the technique, discipline, and stage experience for the next level.
  • Company — our most advanced dancers, training and competing at the highest level.

Is Competitive Dance Right for Your Child?

Competitive dance is a wonderful fit for dancers who love performing, crave a challenge, and want the bonds that come from being part of a team. It's a real commitment — but the payoff is technique, confidence, lifelong friendships, and memories on stage that last forever. Not sure if your dancer is ready yet? Many of our competitive dancers start in our recreational classes first and grow into the team.

Curious if competitive dance is right for your family? The best first step is to come try a class or reach out — we'd love to talk through whether the team is a fit for your dancer.

  • Audition combo videos will be released for all potential team members on May 1st. The expectation is that these combo’s be learned at home prior to the audition on May 31st.

On the day of auditions, you will register, be assigned a number, and assigned a studio to warm up in. Once the audition starts there will be a brief 15 minute barre audition to review ballet skills.

The Audition will progress into “across the floor” skills review in jazz, culminating in a convention style group combo rehearsal of the videos you learned at home.

Dancers will then move to the contemporary audition, skills review across the floor, ending in convention style combo review of the videos released May 1st.

  • After auditions are completed, parents will be notified by email if their dancer is invited to join the team. Invitations are based on the technique demonstrated during the audition, as well as the dancer’s attitude and professionalism. For returning team members, past attendance, behavior, work ethic, and teamwork are also considered.

  • If you are invited to join the team, the dancer commitment agreement and deposit will be due by June 19th. The commitment deposit will be applied to your dancer's Fall convention fee. If you choose not to join the team after submitting the deposit, please note that the deposit is non-refundable.

Once all team members have committed to the 2026-2027 season, the choreography team will evaluate and recommend dances based on the styles and genres they believe will best suit each dancer’s strengths.

To celebrate the end of the 2025-2026 season and welcome the new team members for the 2026-2027 season, we will host a “Thank You and Welcome” party. This will take place on July 16th, 6-9pm at Coom’s Corner. More details to follow.

Dancers selected for solos, duets, and trios will begin learning their choreography on August 1st.
